Industrial Denim

Today I was in the industrial city of Sunderland and I thought what better way to fit in with the surroundings than by wearing some industrial-inspired fashion. That came in the form of my Levis denim shirt. It’s actually a really versatile garment that I’ve worn lots of times before because it goes so well with an array of my clothes and is great for casual days at uni or whilst out shopping. These photographs are taken on the glass roof of the National Glass Centre with the quayside and stormy Northern sky in the background.

Levi’s, the world renowned denim ‘dry goods’ manufacturer is an American super-brand that has turned practicality into a universal fashion statement. Levi’s denim, as it says in the label of my shirt, was in fact initially manufactured for manual labour workers. The fabric’s durable and relatively hardwearing nature meant it was perfect for a uniform of sorts, and functioned well for outdoor wear in the cold. Today builders still rely upon denim jeans, if nothing else in the summer! And it even seems that the fashion police won't be called if you dare to wear double denim today, as long as you wear it right. So truly, what's not to love about denim? Casual, comfortable, long lasting, trendy and you can throw it in the washing machine. Win, win!
