A Birthday Break to The Retreat at Redworth Hall

A mini-break away is a wonderful time to relax and unwind. It gives you the chance to experience a lovely new place and spend quality time with your loved ones and friends. Although lots of people think of jetting off abroad to enjoy quality relaxation time, they’re overlooking beautiful, ornate and stunning stately homes and hotels which the UK has to offer.

I recently had the chance to visit the sublime Redworth Hall and enjoy the fantastic, new Retreat Leisure Club and Spa on my birthday and it was the most splendid way to spend a relaxing couple of days.

With its own sweeping driveway and then magically enveloped by acres of picturesque parkland, Redworth Hall is a stunning 17th century Jacobean Manor steeped in history and an ideal setting to reconnect with your inner peace and find that Zen feeling. Combining the elegance and style of the past with the luxury and home-comforts of today, it is a wonderful backdrop to any celebration you may have coming up. I’m going to show you all the great things I got up to whilst there and inspire you to take your own stay-cation this Spring! Read on for inspo...

Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the staff, handed our keys and made our way up to our room which was a Spa Room with everything you’d require for a wonderful stay. From the whirlpool bath, huge TV, ambient lighting and more, it was gorgeous and had a view out to the woodland area.

We had treatments booked in at The Retreat at 3pm, so before hand we headed down to the gym to try out their equipment and get our cardio in for the day! Very spacious and open plan, with a separate room to put on your own interactive workouts on a big screen, it had all you could need for a complete workout.

We then headed back to our room to shower and get ready for some afternoon spa time! If you are a regular reader of Coconut Couture, then you’ll already know I love a spa day!

Redworth Hall have spent millions on the leisure & spa facilities and it’s been completely transformed to create a new Decleor Spa with six luxurious treatment rooms (including a dual room) and a calming relaxation room featuring fabulous Gharieni thermal loungers. There’s also a new L’Oreal hair and nail salon and ‘The Lounge’, offering a delicious all-day menu, is not to be missed.

I opted for a Deluxe Pedicure as I had never had one before and since I’d been running around so much recently with work etc, I thought this the perfect chance to have some TLC and immerse myself in the tranquillity which Redworth Hall has to offer. This treatment involves starting by soaking the feet in hot water, exfoliation and massage where a cuticle treatment is applied as well as a foot mask, before placing the feet in heated boots to help them to absorb the conditioning treatment. You can then pick a nail shade and then you’re polished to perfection and ready to go! (I went for a hot pink shade!)

My Mum, who I took on this girly trip with me, went for the Lemon & Mango Firm & Tone Wrap and she said it was wonderful. This spa treatment involved a collagen boosting wrap to erase imperfections and strengthen beautifully toned skin. It also restores and moisturises skin all over for a smooth, firm and radiantly younger looking body. All over skincare bliss! This holistic treatment involves a sugar and fruit seed scrub and then a moisturising wrap to lock in goodness to the skin and help it to feel re-invigorated and cleanses and tones simultaneously. Once you’ve had a treatment, you can then spend some time in the beautiful new Tranquillity Room, where you can enjoy the relaxing music and a drink to hydrate after your massage. Massage is known for releasing toxins from the body, so it’s a good idea to replenish and drink lots of water afterwards.

For the next couple of hours, we spent time around the pool chatting and went for a swim which was lovely and made me feel like I was abroad! For a spa day, you get complimentary use of the fluffy robes and slippers and enjoy use the leisure and spa facilities which include the 14 metre pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, steam room and the gym. The Retreat also offers a range of indulgent spa experiences as gift vouchers, from individual treatments to luxurious spa days and overnight breaks. Read more about The Retreat here

We had dinner booked in for 8pm so we changed into our evening wear and headed down for dinner in the 1744 Restaurant. The classic, hearty yet elegant dishes are made using the very finest local ingredients to showcase what the region really has to offer. We started with the Chef’s Soup of the Day which was Leek and Potato Soup which came with bread rolls and butter, and then for mains I went for the Spiced Pumpkin, Mushroom and Sage open lasagne with herb cream and a cheese crisp, and my Mum opted for the Seafood and Herb Risotto with goat’s cheese and herb beignet. We got a few sides of seasonal vegetables, onion rings and chunky home-made chips too. The ambience was lovely, with music playing and all the guests enjoying the night with their loved ones. The food was great and the homely setting was warm and inviting, which made for a fab relaxing evening.

When you go out for dinner, you have to have dessert! (It’s the best bit, am I right?) For dessert, I chose a Chocolate Fudge Sundae with vanilla ice cream, chocolate brownie and chocolate fudge sauce (this was instead of a birthday cake this year!) and my Mum went for the zingy Glazed Lemon Tart with raspberry sorbet and raspberry compote. Delicious!

Happy to see the Chocolate fudge sundae!

After dinner, we decided to go and explore the hotel and look around. With 143 rooms, it is an extensive hotel and there’s so much to see. With an open fire at reception to greet you with warmth and that classic, ‘olde worlde’ feeling, it is a luxurious hotel that is beautiful both inside and out.

The next morning, we hit the gym again before heading to breakfast. You can choose from a selection of cooked breakfast dishes or enjoy a continental breakfast of cereals, yoghurt, fruits and toast.

Keep up to date and follow The Retreat on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

Our visit flew by and was a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of the everyday. A real delight of a hotel and everybody who works there is so friendly and really made the stay wonderful. Thank you Redworth Hall for the fantastic birthday mini-break! Bilgi x
